Children’s Ministry- September 2019

When life changes…God is still good!

Many, many years ago, when I was a much younger woman, I read a book entitled, “The Star and the Sceptre”- a novelization of the life of Esther. At the time that I read this, I had just studied the Old Testament book of Esther and found her faith in God and her trust in her cousin, Mordecai, astonishing. How could a young orphaned Jewish girl become the queen of an empire…an empire that had taken her own people captive? How could she put so much trust in the God who allowed her to become an orphan in the first place? And, how could she obey, without dispute, her older cousin, knowing that she was risking her life while doing so? But she willingly did all that was asked of her and became the instrument God used to save His people from certain annihilation.

I must confess…I’m not an “Esther”, but I have often longed to be one! I don’t trust and believe as easily as she did. I doubt myself in many situations and I feel totally unprepared in others. But, I always go back to Mordecai’s words to Esther. Perhaps she was called “for such a time as this”. God’s hand in her life was purposeful and profitable. He used her in a mighty way and she has become an example of a Biblical woman of God’s favor. So, in the past few months, I’ve asked myself, “Am I called for such a time as this?” Is this, in fact, what God has been preparing me for these past several years? No, not to be queen of an empire or to save an entire nation from massacre, but to quietly and patiently direct the spiritual paths of young children through the children’s ministry at PVSBC. With knees shaking and a quiver in my voice, I answered, “yes” to His calling to lead and guide PVS kids. I’m humbled and grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve alongside so many faithful volunteers, parents and wonderful kids. I can in no way compare myself to Queen Esther, but my desire to be obedient is the same as hers…obedient to His calling, faithful in my pursuit of Christ, and willing to serve unselfishly the body of believers here at PVS. Thank you for entrusting this ministry to me and I look forward to many, many wonderful ministry opportunities with you through PVS kids!
